Synopsis
There was a time when the townsfolk would gather at Sophia's inn every Saturday afternoon. After a long week of labor they would wash away their weariness with ale. They would sit on the soft white sand of the beach, breathing in the cool salted ocean air and watching the waves break upon the shore. The blue cloudless sky would be mirrored in the clear blue water.
Then the sun would drift lower and lower in the west, and set behind the mountains. Darkness would come over the world, and the gathering would slowly break up. Most would walk back home along the East Road in the twinkle of lamps, but there will always be a few couples who remain behind on the beach. They would lie there and stare up at the heavens, watching the stars wheel before their eyes.
Sometime during the night, however, they will also leave for home. In the early morning the tide will rise, and the foot prints in the sand would be scrubbed away by the water. Tranquility would return to the beach, until another week had passed.
But those days are no more... |
